CJ Update

January 2, 2016

Thanks to everyone for sending good wishes for our son CJ's speedy recovery. Today marks the seventh day since CJ was struck with a cerebral hemorrhage. He's still in the intensive care unit where he'll remain for the next two weeks but he's finally starting to show signs of his old self. He still has a drain in his head to relieve pressure, and controlling his headaches is a constant challenge. The doctors tell us his recovery will be complete but slow and it will be several months before he returns to work full time. He's been receiving lots of visitors from police co-workers and many cops have been dropping by to talk cars with him. The cops are great, rallying around CJ and reassuring him that he's part of the police family. I warned the nurses that many of them would be showing up but only a few would have arrest warrants.

So far the source of CJ's hemorrhage hasn't been found. Tests have ruled out stroke and aneurysms, and the culprit is probably a tiny burst blood vessel. The doctors continue to search for it and on Monday CJ will have another angiogram. We've been told it's possible they'll never find the cause, yet its unlikely this will ever happen again. I can only hope this is true.

I look forward to this being behind us when CJ can return to normalcy and I can return to writing and reading all of your posts. Once again, thanks for all the good wishes for CJ. Take care and Happy New Year.

So relieved that CJ will have a complete recovery! Now, I want to know who exactly will the arrest warrant be for? :)

As time passes and he returns to a normal life this will seem a very odd and distant experience. But right now, I know you are glad that all is moving in the right direction. I hate not getting answers, but sometimes we just have to accept that.

I'd give you $5 to tell your mom that C.J.'s problem was caused by genes from her side of the family. Oh, is it too soon for ridiculous humor?

Stephen- Your update is encouraging and great to read. We continue to hold you all in our prayers and thoughts. So good of his colleagues to rally around him as they have. That too is spirit lifting.

I am glad he is slowly on the med. It will take time, patience, encouragement and will power but I am certain he will be back to his old self. When my mom was 21 she suffered a hematoma from an accident( she and a bunch of other people fell off a open streetcar). They had to take part of her skull off to alleviate the pressure due to the brain swelling. She had to re-learn how to walk and talk and was 9 months in the hospital but she succeeded and had a great recovery. Your son will also

I had a brother-in-law who was a cop and was truly impressed at how they rallied around him and his family during an emergency. So that must be a good feeling for you in this difficult time. I'm glad the news seems to be good, and please just know that our wishes go out to you and your son.

So happy the prognosis is so positive but sorry the recovery period is lengthy. Will pray for his complete recovery but also for the patience he will be needing. All the support he is getting has to be the best medicine.

I haven't been visiting blogs in the last couple of weeks so it is only today that I am sorry to hear of CJ's news. It is reassuring to hear that the doctors think he will be making a fulll recovery and that they haven't found serious reasons. I believe that many people have tiny burst veins for no particular reason and the good thing is usually they happen in the finger or foot or some other innocuous place where they don't do any harm. So the location is a bummer but it sounds as if the docs are not actually too worried. I am keeping my fingers crossed that he will get better much quicker than expected as I am sure he will soon be well enough to be irritated as hell!
