Twenty-One Years

August 7, 2017

Last week was National Night Out, a time for the community to come together and enjoy free pizza and ice cream on a summer night while mingling with the police in an effort to build bridges between citizens and our municipal government. Readers of this blog know that Mrs. Chatterbox works for our local police department. In addition to managing over a hundred volunteers who save our taxpayers more than a hundred and fifty thousand dollars a year, she’s been responsible for planning our National Night Out event.

Mrs. C. will be retiring at the end of September so this was her last National Night Out. CJ and I had come to surprise her, even though it was hard for her to socialize with us because, like a conductor of an orchestra, she was busy schmoozing with citizens, supervising police cadets, vendors, face-painters and balloon artists. She also arranged an always popular K-9 officer presentation, along with other events.

This year Mrs. C. was surprised to be called onstage where her service to the community was acknowledged. She was presented with this wonderful award, and I couldn’t be more proud of her. My only regret was that I had no idea this award was coming and I left before it was presented, so no picture.

It might be difficult to read but the award, including a quote from Goethe, says:

Sue Hayes

“A great person attracts great people and knows how to hold them together.”

Thank you for twenty-one years of dedicated service.

Retirement with this woman is going to be a magnificent adventure.

Stephen- A lovely post. Congratulations to Mrs. C., for the honor of the evening, and for reaching retirement. Clearly, her work has been valuable. The National Night Out is a good thing for communities and bless her heart for being the spark plug. PS-It is also nice to learn Mrs. C's name.

I know she will probably miss that work. My partner is the director of the local chamber ofr commerce and he plans the festivals and special events for the city. It is often thankless work. I'm so glad they recognized Mr.s C for her contributions. R

Congrats to Mrs. C on her career accomplishments! I'm sure she will be sorely missed. But look at the bright side: now she can devote her time solely to managing and organizing YOU!

That's fantastic, congrats to your wife on the award and the years of service. I wanted to take my kids to our national night out but they weren't in the mood. (that seems to be a common problem in my household)

Congrats on the wonderful and obviously well earned honor. People who care and give like she does, will probably still keep a helping hand on the wheel down the line, It is just in their nature.

Congratulations on a well-deserved award; that's a lot of volunteers to manage and a lot of years to keep doing it! All the best Mrs. C in your retirement. Still laughing at Val's comment - look out Stephen :)
